The Global Warming Scam
Yup, I said it. I’ve said it before too, and it will be a long time before anyone will convince me that global warming (if it is even happening) is caused by man. Unfortunately it has almost become taboo to disagree with the theory of global warming, which is bad for any type of scientific endeavor. Thankfully there are some who are willing to speak their minds like John Coleman, founder of the Weather Channel. John Coleman believes that global warming is the greatest scam in history, perpetrated by researchers hungry for notoriety and funding. No one gets excited about weather research, or even weather in general (unless it ruins the weekend), so a career in meteorological research can be really boring or really short.
“But how can you ignore all the evidence??” I believe the evidence is incomplete. We have only been able to make accurate measurements of the climate for the last 100 years, and all of the really useful data didn’t start coming in until the 1970s. Arctic ice cores open a small window into the past, but it does not give a complete picture. Ice cores also don’t tell us if there were 10 hot years out of 10,000 .. only the long-term average. So we’ve had a few hot years and a few more hurricanes and droughts than usual, but globally there is no significant change, especially when you’re talking about climate shifts that take thousands of years. There simply is not enough accurate, historical data to extrapolate what is going to happen in the next 10-20 years.
OK, so let’s pretend that global warming is real. How do we know it is not a natural upswing caused by natural events? Cows and volcanoes produce more greenhouse gases than all of humanity. There was a mini ice age in the 1700s, well before the Industrial Revolution, so that certainly was not caused by human intervention. I think people want to believe global warming is caused by humans in order to advance their own goals and to believe they can actually fix the problem. Everyone with a cause can use global warming as the smoking gun for why X, Y, and Z are happening. I think it is a bit arrogant of the human race to believe that we could cause such catastrophic, permanent damage to the planet .. it has been around for 5 billion years and I think it can take care of itself. Even a nuclear holocaust would not mean the end of life on Earth. Remember: if you’re not part of the solution, there is money to be made in prolonging the problem.
